| California with Preservation Hall Band (from 06/23/05) |
|
|
|
Greetings, friends.
Below is a list of the shows we will be performing in California, opening for the Preservation Hall Jazz band. (We will be playing short, acoustic sets before the main act takes the stage.) Thanks to all of you who eamiled suggestions about other places to play in California. Unfortunately, due to time and travel constraints, nothing has yet panned out. However, the schedule has filled out. (There is still a small possibility we will be playing on the street or find a pick up show in a small establishment in San Francisco. I will let you all know if possible, so if you're in that area, keep an eye on your email.)
Here are the shows:
Friday, June 24: Barclay Theatre, Irvine, CA 8pm Sunday, June 26: Warner Park, Woodland Hills, CA 8pm Monday, June 27: Madrid Theatre, Canoga Park, CA 10 am (yes -- ten in the morning, which 8 am in Louisiana!) Tuesday, June 28: Belly Up Tavern, Salona Beach, CA 8 pm Thursday, June 30: Crystal Bay Club, Crystal Bay, Nevada (Ok -- I guess this isn't in California...) Saturday, July 2: Mondavi Winery, Oakville, CA 7pm Sunday, July 3: Rio Theatre, Santa Cruz, CA 7pm Monday, July 4: Marin County Fair, San Rafael, CA 2 pm
Hope to see some of you out there!

Hello again. It occurs to me that I haven't updated this page for several months, so here goes:
The westward tour with the Boys was fairly successful, with a few snags. Namely, our vehicle was broken into behind the club in St Louis and several personal items were stolen, including much of my wardrobe. Fortunately we were using our PA system and all of our instruments at the time (well, most -- Greg's melodica was stolen) so the unfortunate motto for the tour became "It could have been worse." But seriously, we were well received and saw lots of old and new friends. Special thanks to the Schmidts, the Johnsons and to Jason Eklund.
Since the last tour we have begun a relationship with One Music Group, a partnership of music industry people in New Orleans. We have been working with them on improving our promotional materials with the aim of getting us on tour again, this time focusing on festivals and performing arts venues. And developing a multi-media show that will include one or more other New Orleans bands, probably the New orleans Jazz Vipers. This show is only in the planning stages now, but it might turn into a way for us to showcase New Orleans music and my own songs at the same time.
Work on the new CD continues in earnest. This is my first CD of only original material, and I am determined to enjoy the creative process totally. There's no rushing it, so a release date has yet to be set. Let me say however that all of the tunes have been recorded; several have been mixed. While the songs are mostly written about my experiences as a street musician, the creative colaboration is with Paul and Greg, and with engineer Andrew "Goat" Gilchrist.
We are performing Jazz Fest for the sixth (!) time this year, on Thursday April 28th at the Blues Tent at 12:25. This show wil be complimented by late night performances at Preservation Hall on both Saturdays of the Fest. Hope to see you there!

Well, folks, my solo tour was a lot of fun and quite successful; I met a lot of new friends, saw a lot of old friends, and also got to travel abit with my wife Valery and our daughter Luciana to see family and so on. I want to thank everyone involved for making it such a good time.
And now on to Colorado with th boys. Unfortunately, we've had an unexpected and very troubling cancelation of a gig that would have been in Corpus Christi, TX on August 7th. If anyone out there is in the vicinity of Austin/Houston/Dallas, and would like to have us play at a private event at their home or business, well, the 7th is wide open!

| Successful March Tour, and more plans for band and solo tours (from 04/05/04) |

Well, Deltabilly fans, the Boys and I had a fun and successful tour through Texas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas. We made new friends everywhere we played and re-connected with some old friends. Every gig was a debut for us in each venue. From the roadhouse atmosphere of the Saxon Pub in Austin to the rockabilly crowd of Denver's Skylark Lounge, to the New Orleans atmosphere in St. Louis' Broadway Oyster Bar, and to the private functions we played in Winter Park Colorado and St Jacob, IL -- it was all good. Some venues had "quality" crowds (as opposed to quantity), and some were raging mobs (well, almost), but they all were fun. We planted a lot of seeds, and hope to be be back to reap the benefits in the years to come. Plans are already in the works to return to most of these venues as early as this July/August. I want to thank Paul and Greg for being such good travel companions, Wendy Bosma for helping fill in the gaps on the schedule (I have to thank her, 'cause I know she's reading this), Scott Johnson for having us play his wedding, setting up the Denver-area gigs, putting us up in his Boulder home, and for hosting a gig with his bands the Beloved Invaders and the Shackdaddys, the Schmidt family for hosting the party in St. Jacob, folksinger Jason Eklund who gave us such a warm welcome in Denver, checked in on our progress on the road, and sat in with us at the Skylark, and to everyone who enjoyed the shows.
I am also in the process of planning a solo tour through the South East up to the NorthEast. Anyone who has suggestions for venues, please let me know. Also, some of you may want to consider hosting a private concert in your home for friends. Think about it.
In the meantime, it's almost Jazz Fest time in New Orleans, and we will be playing at the Fairgrounds Friday, April 23rd in the Blues Tent, and then twice that night at the Spotted Cat and then the Dragon's Den.
We hope to see you all soon! Peace and prosperity to you all!
