Hello friends ---
I will be playing two shows in New Orleans this weekend: The Deltabilly Boys (myself and Greg Schatz w/Mike Voelker sitting in on drums) will be at dba on Frenchmen Street Friday, November 17 at 10. And we will be splitting a bill with Greg's act Schatzy at Le Bon Temps Roulé on Magazine on Saturday night. Schatzy will also be playing the Big Top in the Warehouse District on Thursday night, early. Hope to see you all there!

Hello Friends;
We had a great show at the Rhythm & Roots Festival this past Friday; the news is that the set was recorded (very professionally) and will be available for download in a few days. (I'm my own worst critic and I have to say I am very pleased with the result.) Downloads can even be purchased in advance. Follow this link: http://flink.livedownloads.com/festivals_rroots.asp?affid=60
In other news, I will be giving a couple of talks at Sapinsley Hall, Rhode Island College Campus, Providence, RI. Free and open to the public. Here's the info:
Lecture 1: "The History of Music in New Orleans and Louisiana" From the creation of Jazz to Blues, Zydeco and Cajun, to the Mardi Gras Indians and Brass Bands; Louisiana's unique history and cultural mix have made it what it is: the cradle of American music. Wednesday, September 13, 12pm Lecture 2: "Banjo, Drum and Guitar: Black/White Cultural Dialogue and the Invention of American Music" Socio-Economics, historical events and technology affected the development and dissemination of a number of popular American instruments. Racial, cultural and economic divisions were surmounted by the cross-fertilization of American music from the colonial era to the mid-20th Century. Wednesday, September 27, 12pm Lastly, there are some Deltabilly shows coming up in September, including the "Deltabilly Duo" (Schatz & Lyons) at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland, RI on Sept 8, The Deltabilly Boys (w/Paul Santopadre on drums) at the Plough & Stars in Cambridge on Sept. 9, and a couple Schatzy/Deltabilly Shows in Brooklyn Sept.15 $ 16. Check out the website or myspace for specifics: http://www.deltabilly.com http://www.myspace.com/jeremylyonsampthedeltabillyboys
Thanks, and I hope to see you all soon!

Hello friends --
Just a word about some regular gigs, special upcoming shows, and internet stuff:
I've been doing some regular local gigs in the Boston area (check the website to make sure I'm in town):
Sally O'Brien's (335 Somerville Ave, Somerville, MA), Fridays 5-8 pm. (Jerome Deupree will be playing drums on several of these, along with either Blake Newman, Robbie Phillips or Greg Schatz on bass.)
and
The Phoenix Landing (512 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA) Sundays 5-9 pm -- been a real fun rotating cast of accompanists here. Usually no drummer. Kid-friendly.
A trip to NYC (Brooklyn, more specifically):
Friday, July 14: Jeremy Lyons & Greg Schatz in the Sunset Music Series http://www.geocities.com/sunsetmuse/ It's a concert on an old barge docked in Red Hook, Brooklyn, on the NY Harbor.
Saturday, July 15: New Orleans Guitar Double feature. Deltabilly Boy Jeremy Lyons and Tin Man Alex McMurray will each play a set, backed by Greg Schatz on bass, and a drummer. Then Alex will play the bass, and Greg'll lead the band on his stuff while playing accordion. Bar Minnow, 7th Ave at 9th st, in Park Slope, Brooklyn, 10pm.
Sunday, July 16: Enjoy brunch at Superfine (in DUMBO, Brooklyn) with music by me and Greg again. 12-3 pm
Website: We've done some updates to the website, with new photos (more to come), and a short page about guitar lessons (I've been teaching a lot) and educational stuff. And not too alarm you, but I finally got one of those weird myspace music pages up. It's still pretty light on content, but if you like that sort of thing, here it is: http://www.myspace.com/jeremylyonsampthedeltabillyboys
The Boys and I had a great time at the Freihofer's Jazz fest in Saratoga Springs. We'll all be back together again for a couple gigs in July, but I'll leave that for later...
Thanks -- cheers!

| Katrina Retrospective (Deltabilly Style): Photos, Ruins, and Music |

For the past 8 months, New England has enjoyed the Delta blues of New Orleans musician (and post Katrina transplant) Jeremy Lyons. In October, 2005 Jeremy returned to salvage what was left in his Crescent City home. Old friend and Cambridge resident Laura Céré accompanied Jeremy, helping clean up and photographing the destruction along with the reuniting of friends not seen since the flood. Friday, May 26 at the Lily Pad Gallery (1353 Cambridge Ave, Cambridge, MA, in Inman Square), Lyons and Céré present a night of music, post-Katrina New Orleans images and guitar ruins! The display will be up all afternoon and evening; music starts at 9 pm. Jeremy Lyons with Blake Newman--Bass Steve Chaggaris--drums and Ken Field & Friends (opening)

Greetings friends. Jeremy Lyons here.
The Deltabilly Boys are returning to New Orleans to perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Saturday, May 6. We have other gigs lined up as well:
Friday, May 5: private party in New Orleans (Bubba's house in the Marigny)
Saturday, May 6: New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, New Orleans Fairgrounds. Fais Do Do Stage, 2:25 pm.
Saturday, May 6: d.b.a. (Frenchmen St) 8 - 11 pm (before Little Freddie King)
Also on Saturday, Jeremy runs over to Mid-City Lanes Rock 'n' Bowl for an "All Star Jam" featuring Anders Osborne, Stanton Moore, and others. (Big guns. Hope I can hang.)
Sunday, May 7: Schatzy! acoustic at Mimi's in the Marigny, 6 pm (ish) (Schatzy will be doing these Sundays regularly throughout May, as well as performing "Chaz Fest" at the Truck Farm studio on the Thursday between Fest weekends.)
Paul and I will be hanging around New Orleans for a few days after the Fest to work on a new Schatzy CD with Greg Schatz and Dave Stover at Andrew Gilchrist's "House of 1000Hz" Studio in the Bywater.
For those of you in the Northeast, I've been continuing my residency at the Phoenix Landing in Central Square on Sundays, 5-9pm, and have picked up a regular slot at Sally O'Brien's in Somerville, Fridays, 5-8pm.
Other Deltabilly Boys dates:
The Sunset Music Series (a concert on a barge in the New York Harbor in Brooklyn), Friday, June 14
The Freihofer's Jazz fest in Saratoga Springs, NY, June 24
Lowell Music Series (opening for Leon Russell), August 4
Rhode Island's Rhythm & Roots Festival, September 1st.
...and I'll be opening up for my old friend Sleepy LaBeef at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, MA, August 11.
See the website calendar for details on all dates, and for new gig postings.
By the way, the benefit at Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theatre was a great success: we raised over $1,000 for New Orleans street performers. (And I had fun playing in some very interesting an unusual band arrangements.) Thanks to all who participated.
Happy Festing!
